Optimizing IV&V Benefits Using Simulation

Problem

How can the economic benefit of IV&V technologies be optimized? What is the best strategy for applying IV&V technologies? What is the benefit if a given IV&V technique is applied at different insertion points in the development process or applied multiple times? What is the benefit of applying one combination of IV&V techniques to a given process vs another? Would there be an economic benefit to contracting V&V activities out as IV&V instead?

Objective

The benefit associated with IV&V techniques depends on how the techniques are applied (i.e. where in the process they are applied, how often they are applied and so forth). The proposed Software Process Simulation Models (SPSMs) will capture the necessary details of software development and IV&V processes enabling NASA to address the questions stated above.
